Insunation

Terms of service

The agreement between you and Insunation when you use the directory.

Version v1 — October 2026. These terms are between you and InsureMe. Write to [email protected] about them.

Insunation is a directory. We do not sell insurance, we do not handle claims, we do not advise on cover, and we are not the Insurance Regulatory Authority. Looking things up is free. These terms cover this website only.

What Insunation is, and what it is not

Insunation publishes a directory of insurance agents and brokers licensed in Kenya, county by county, and passes an enquiry from a customer to the agent or broker that customer chooses. The licence numbers, holder names and categories come from licensing lists the Insurance Regulatory Authority publishes. Everything else on a listing — the address, the phone number, the description — was entered by its owner.

  • We are not an insurer, an agent or a broker. Nothing on the directory is an offer of insurance, and no cover exists until an insurer accepts it.
  • We are not the Authority and are not affiliated with it. A listing here is not a licence and does not stand in for one.
  • We do not advise on which cover to buy, and nothing on the directory is financial, legal or insurance advice. The agent or broker you contact is responsible for the advice they give and for any cover arranged.
  • We do not handle claims or complaints against a holder, and we never take premiums: premiums are paid to the insurer.

Contacting a holder through the directory puts you in touch with them. The contract for any cover is between you and the insurer, not with us.

Using the directory

The directory is free and public. Looking up an agent or broker needs no account, and the county filter is answered only after the human check — which exists to stop the register being harvested, not to identify you.

When you send an enquiry we collect your name, phone number, email address and what you asked about, and send them to the agent or broker you chose so that they can reply. What they then do with those details is their responsibility and is covered by their own privacy notice, not ours. Read our privacy notice

Every enquiry sends the holder a text message that costs them money, so we limit how many one address can send in a period. Use the directory for your own enquiries, not to send messages on behalf of somebody who has not agreed to them.

Agent account

You need an account to register a listing. You must be at least 18, give details that are true and yours, and keep them up to date. We ask you to confirm your email address before an application can be submitted.

Keep your password, and any second factor, to yourself: you are responsible for what is done through your account. Tell us at [email protected] if you think somebody else has access to it.

An account is for one person or one firm, not for a group of unrelated users to share. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, and we will say why.

You can close your account at any time. Closing it deletes the account, your listings — including any published in the directory — the documents you uploaded and the files themselves, as the privacy notice describes. It cannot be undone.

Registering and keeping a listing

A listing may only be registered by the holder of the licence it names, or by somebody the holder has authorised. A licence number is printed in the Authority's own lists, so knowing one proves nothing; an application for a licence you do not hold will be refused.

You will be asked for evidence — a national ID or passport, and for a firm a certificate of business registration or incorporation or, for a brokerage, a CR-12 form — and we check that against the register before anything is published.

Applying for a licence does not reserve it. Several parties may apply for the same licence, and an application that is not completed within fourteen days expires. What is exclusive is the published listing: while one is published, another for the same licence cannot be. You may have up to three applications open at once.

Checked
What that means
The licence Matched against the licensing lists the Authority published, and re-read from the register when the application is decided.
The documents That the evidence the Authority requires for your kind of holder has been produced, and looks like what it claims to be.
Not checked The rest of the listing — the address, phone number, email, website, description and contact people are taken from what you typed, and we do not verify them.

A published listing means the licence was checked. It is not a recommendation, a guarantee of the holder's work, or an assurance that the details around it are right — the registration page and My listings say so as well as this page.

We may refuse, withdraw or feature a listing. Refusing or withdrawing one requires a reason, which the holder is shown, and a licence is only ever published once.

Fees and payment

Registering a listing is free in this deployment. No fee is charged and no payment details are collected — the fee exists in the code but is switched off here.

What you must not do

  • Claim a licence you do not hold, or register a listing for somebody who has not authorised you.
  • Give false or misleading information in an application, a listing or a contact record, including an altered document.
  • Harvest, scrape or bulk-download the register or the directory, or search licence numbers in bulk. Every search and application is logged with the address it came from, and that pattern is what the limits are applied against.
  • Work around the human check, the rate limits or the caps on applications, or interfere with the site, its security or other people's use of it.
  • Send somebody else's personal data — a contact person, an enquirer or a reviewer — without their consent.
  • Use the directory to send unlawful, misleading or unsolicited messages, or to impersonate anybody.
  • Use the directory for anything unlawful, or in a way that infringes another person's rights.

We may suspend an account, remove a listing or refuse an enquiry that breaks these rules, and will say why. Where a licence has been claimed without authority, we may tell the holder.

Ratings and replies

Only somebody who contacted a listing through the directory can rate it, and only when we have invited them to. The invitation is sent by email, once, with a link that expires: the link is the credential, so no account is needed. One rating is allowed for each enquiry, and the enquiry is what it attaches to.

A rating is a score out of five and up to three labels from a fixed list. There is nowhere to write anything, so please do not try to send medical or other sensitive details through it — they cannot be published. A rating is an account of one person's experience, not a statement of fact, and the directory never says that an enquirer bought anything.

Every rating is read by a person before it appears, and we may refuse one or remove one that breaks these terms. Ratings are shown with the number of them behind the score, and a score is withheld until enough ratings exist for it to mean anything.

If you registered the listing, you may reply to a rating about you, once, and the reply appears directly underneath it. Closing your account anonymises your ratings rather than deleting them: your name goes and the score stays, because deleting it would let a holder improve their score by asking people to close their accounts.

Your content, and ours

You keep whatever rights you have in the material you send us — your listing details, your documents, your replies. You give us permission to store it, check it and, for whatever is meant to be public, publish it in the directory and show it to the people who use it. That permission lasts while the material is on the site, and ends when you and we delete it, except where we have to keep a record by law.

You promise that you have the right to give us that material, and that publishing it breaks nobody else's rights or any law.

The directory itself — the site, its software and the text we wrote — belongs to us. The licence data belongs to the Authority and is published by it. You may read, search and print the directory for your own use, and share a link to a listing. You may not copy the register or the directory in bulk, resell it, or use it to build another directory or a mailing list.

Other people's services

Some of what makes the site work belongs to other companies: M-Pesa takes payments, an email and SMS provider carries our alerts, and the human check may be answered by a provider outside Kenya. Their own terms apply to what they do. The privacy notice says which of them receive personal data, and where it goes.

Availability and changes

The directory is provided as it is and as it is available. We may add, change, suspend or withdraw any part of it, including a listing or a feature, and we may have to interrupt it for maintenance. We do not promise that it will always be reachable or free of faults.

The register is only as current as the last list the Authority published. A licence that has lapsed since may still appear until the next list is loaded.

Our responsibility to you

We take the checks described above seriously, but we cannot promise that every listing is accurate, complete or current, that a holder will reply, do a good job, or be insured for what they do. The register is the Authority's data and the details are the holder's: we pass them on rather than vouch for them. An enquiry is a message to a holder, not to us, and we are not responsible for the advice a holder gives or for any cover you arrange with them.

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of profit or expectation, arising from your use of the directory or from dealing with a broker/agent you found through it.

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability where the law does not allow it — including for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, and for fraud — and nothing here takes away a right you have under Kenyan law, including the Consumer Protection Act, that cannot be given up.

Complaints, and the law that applies

If something has gone wrong, tell us at [email protected] first and give us a chance to put it right — we will answer. If you are unhappy with how we handled your personal data, the privacy notice explains how to complain to the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner.

These terms are governed by the law of Kenya, and the courts of Kenya may decide any dispute — without affecting your right to go to a court or tribunal the law says you may.

The complaints address for data matters is [email protected], and for everything else it is [email protected].

Changes to these terms

When these terms change in a way that matters, the version above changes with it. Continuing to use the directory after a change means the new version applies; if you do not agree with it, stop using the directory and, if you like, close your account. Where a change materially affects a fee you have already paid, we will say so before it takes effect.

If a part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest stays. If we do not enforce a term once, that is not a decision to give it up. These terms and the privacy notice are the whole agreement between you and us about the directory.
